It’s baaaack! The weekly weekend events calendar of Northeast Seattle, that is. Let the fun begin!

The weather this weekend looks to be a little gray. Rain is most likely on Friday and temperatures might reach the mid-60s by Father’s Day. Could be worse, Pops.

THURSDAY

  • Shop at a local farmer’s market for dinner, then have a seat and eat.

FRIDAY

  • Watch a Meaningful Movie on the plight of the bee.
    • Free screening of “More Than Honey” at the University Unitarian Church (6556 35th Ave NE). Doors open at 6:30 PM, film starts at 7 PM. Donations Accepted.

SATURDAY

  • Ride together to Seattle Children’s Livable Streets Celebration.
    • Meet up with Kidical Mass at the Husky Grind (3925 Adams Lane NE) at 10 AM and head out by 10:20 AM on the Burke-Gilman Trail detour to the newly completed connecting path to Children’s Hospital. The Celebration will include free bike helmets and fittings, bike rodeo, food and prizes.
  • Recycle your outdated electronics and shred personal paperwork.
    • Center for Spiritual Living parking lot (5801 Sand Point Way NE), 10 AM-2 PM. Electronics to be refurbished and reused by InterConnection for unemployed and low-income individuals and families. Items accepted: desktop and laptop computers, monitors, TVs, cell phones, keyboards, power cables, and speakers. Shredding done by Confidential Data Disposal, Inc.
  • Time travel to gardens of the past with the kids at story time. 
    • Time Machine Story Program at the UW Botanic Gardens’ Miller Library in Laurelhurst (3501 NE 41st Street), 10:30 – 11:15 AM. Ages 3-8 with families but all ages are welcome. Free. 

Oralea Bonus Event: If none of these Northeast Seattle events strikes your fancy, maybe a trip to Lake Forest Park Third Place Books for the music of Smilin’ Scandinavian Polka is just what you’ve been waiting for. Let’s dance! Saturday, June 14th, 7:30-9:30 PM.

Your Busy Northeast Seattle Weekend: August 17-18

Temperatures headed into the mid-70s this weekend. Might see some PM rain on Saturday, but anything’s better than this humidity we got going on right now. *sticky*

SATURDAY

  • Be a Friend of the Ravenna Ravine.
    • Friends of Ravenna Ravine work party, 10 AM-1 PM. Meet at the Kiosk (near the Tool Box) near the lower playfield in SE Ravenna Park (north of NE 55th St. and north of the ball field). You will be most comfortable if you wear layers of clothes, and sturdy shoes, that you don’t mind getting dirty. BRING WATER. Tools and gloves will be provided.
  • Walk around Northgate and learn that there’s more to it than just the mall.

Your Busy Northeast Seattle Weekend: August 10-11 (UPDATE)

OMG, will this summer ever END? Partly cloudy with temperatures in the mid-70s to 80s is the best we can do for this weekend. 

SATURDAY

  • Tour a newly renovated fire station!
    • Fire Station 40 Open House (9401 35th Ave. NE), 11 AM – 1 PM. Tour the station, meet the fire fighters, learn about fire safety, and eat Top Pot doughnuts!
  • Tour two local and historical modern homes.
    • Balch’s Wedgwood: Self-guided tours of two Paul Hayden Kirk-designed homes in Wedgwood, 2-5 PM. Check in at 2803 NE 82nd St and receive a tour brochure. Second house on the same block. Tour fee is $10 per person (cash or check only), no reservations needed, and refreshments included. Put on by Docomomo WEWA and 360°modern.

Special Section: Magnuson Park

Magnuson Park is BUSY this weekend. Watch out!

  • Summer Fitness Day, Saturday, 9:30 AM. Half marathon, 5K & 10K run/walk, 15K run, and a kids dash. Part of the Magnuson Series of year-round races.
  • Great Kilted Run 5K. Start/finish Kite Hill parking lot. Sunday, 8:00 AM – 12:30 PM; 9:30 AM race start.
  • Outdoor Baptism. 1000+ participants. Sunday, 12:00 – 5:45 PM. Lake Washington beach, Shelter #2.
  • Obliteride: Cycling fundraising event to support cancer research. Saturday and Sunday. 1000+ participants, plus spectators. Start/finish Fields #10 & #11 to the east of Sportsfield Drive NE.
  • International Stunt School: Rappelling class and precision driving class. Saturday and Sunday, 9 AM – 6 PM. Building 30 hangar – rappelling, north end parking lot E5 – precision driving.

One of those Busy Weekend posts when you could DO ALL THE THINGS!

  • Enjoy some music in the park with the whole family.
    • Family Summer Concert Series at the Magnuson Park Amphitheater (6344 NE 74th St), 7 PM. Caspar Babypants performs. PCC Kid Picks Mobile Van will also be there. FREE, but donations accepted.

SATURDAY

  • Git yer square dance on, and fight hunger and homelessness.
    • Hoedown for Hunger, Magnuson Park (7400 Sand Point Way NE), 11 AM-4 PM. Barbecue, live music, games, face painting, antique farm equipment, beer garden, square dancing, more. FREE, but donations to North Helpline (nonperishables) are being accepted

     

  • Tour two local and historical modern homes.

Shop from around the globe, from woman artisans, just down the street.

Empowering Women Artisan Market at the Burke Museum (17th Ave NE and NE 45th St), 10 AM-3 PM both days. Artisans from Nepal, Laos, India, Bolivia, Morocco, and Rwanda will be present and selling paintings, wall hangings, baskets, clothing, and jewelry. Hands-on family activities on Sunday.

SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

  • Old school sale meets new school style.
  • Buy some gently used tales, on sale.
    • Ravenna Third Place Books, 6504 20th Ave NE, 40% off all used books. Also happening at the Lake Forest Park location at 17171 Bothell Way NE.
