Dispatches from Ravenna, a neighborhood in Northeast Seattle
Armed robbery on the University of Washington campus, some local kids all grown up and touring the country’s Occupy areas, and some local shopping tips and deals in the week ahead.
The U.S. Bank branch in the Roosevelt neighborhood (1023 NE 63rd St) was the target of Occupy movement-related vandalism in the early morning of Saturday, November 26.
Our friends over at Roosiehood have the story (and more pictures).
Should you need to access another U.S. Bank branch in our area, there are four others in Northeast Seattle. Click on the map for location information.
Via the Seattle Public Library twitter feed: A 99-year-old sewer line serving the University Branch (5009 Roosevelt Way) is broken, and the library is closed until further notice.
There is no damage to the library building itself, but there is no water or sewer service at this time. Repairs are underway, and holds will be extended due to the closure.
According to the University Branch’s website, a reopening date has not yet been determined.
UPDATE (Thursday, December 1): University Branch website now says, “The branch will reopen at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3. Holds ready for pickup at the University Branch now will expire Saturday, Dec. 10.”
Holds ready for pickup at the University Branch now will expire Saturday, Dec. 10.
UPDATE (Nov. 25, 3:33 PM): Via the SPL twitter feed: University Branch will not be open on Saturday. Bookdrop is open and holds have been extended to 12/3.
We here at the Ravenna Blog would like to remind you of the importance of proper waste disposal during this holiday season.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Two really fun parts of the latest North Link Light Rail construction open houses for the Roosevelt and Brooklyn Stations are now available for viewing online: Illustrations of the construction sites themselves.
Enjoy!
These animations, and the presentations they were a part of, can be found on Sound Transit’s North Link Documents Library page.
Kevin Colbert needs our help.
He is looking for a garage to store, and occasionally work on, a Jeep and a motorcycle. Access is important, as he uses the vehicles to commute.
Kevin used to rent from a couple of graduate students, who have since moved away.
He’s in an apartment at about 21st Avenue NE and NE 70th Street, and is hoping to find something within short walking distance.
Kevin can be reached at 718-5260 or feed-me-a-garage@hotmail.com. He’s happy to provide a reference.
Over a dozen Seattle Fire Department units responded to a two car injury accident at the southern entrance to University Village (2746 NE 45th St) this afternoon.
Here are the details, from the Seattle Fire Department’s Fire Line:
Seattle Fire Department Paramedics transported a female driver in her 50’s to Harborview Medical Center after being rescued out of her car.
The female patient was pulling out of the QFC parking lot when she lost control of her Honda minivan and drove over a barricade and slammed into the back of a parked car causing her minivan to roll on its side.
Firefighters from Ladder Company 7 used saws and other tools to cut the woman out of her minivan. The female patient was breathing, conscious and alert. Medics transported her to Harborview Medical Center with minor injuries.
Seattle Police Department Officers are investigating the cause of the accident.
Jonah Spangenthal-Lee at Publicola happened to get a picture of the accident from “[o]ur fave tipster Silver,” and shared it via his old Seattle Crime twitter feed:
The west-bound curb lane of NE 45th St was blocked for around 45 minutes.
Wherin we get a bridge occupied, a strip club reopened, and continue to wrestle over the name of that light rail station on Brookyn and 45th.
Dear Reader,
We’re going to let you in on a little secret. Call it a sneak peek at your Christmas present.
We’re in the midst of redesigning the site.
You see, thanks to those ads you see down the righthand side of this page, we now have the means to invest a bit more back into the business. (Many thanks, ad partners.)
And we’re starting with investing in the website itself.
The overall look will stay much the same — Ravenna banner at the top, text on the left, ad space and a few other things on the right — but gain a more professional-looking, cleaner theme.
And more features! Such as:
(We’re very excited about those tabs.)
Now, when can you expect to see this new and improved Ravenna Blog? We don’t have an exact date planned, but keep look for a change between now and the new year.
Until then, dear reader, if you would really, really like a peek at the look of the new site, simply click on the logo below (SPOILER ALERT):
We hope you like it, and look forward to your feedback once the new site goes live.
Sincerely,
the Ravenna Blog staff
P.S. If you’re curious about how the FORUM will work, we’ll be using the same plugin that runs the West Seattle Blog’s forums. Check it out.
Once again, northern Ravenna businesses LaVassar Florists and Roaring Mouse Creative Arts Studio (7530 20th Avenue NE) are holding their Annual Holiday Open House.
This year the event takes place on Saturday, December 3 from 10 AM-5 PM.
Thirteen artists and vendors will have their wares available for purchase (see the full list on the event flier below).
Raffle prizes include three fresh arrangements from LaVassar, and two $50 gift certificates for Roaring Mouse.
Santa himself will attend the event from noon until 2 PM — he’s a busy guy these days. Complimentary photos are available, or you can use your own camera.
Cookies and cider will be available. But if you’re still hungry, check out the bake sale — the proceeds of which benefit Hopelink Food Bank.
