Willy Wonka, eat your heart out – Will Bake for Food is back!

Ravenna Blog's Junior Editor sampling a Pumpkin Pie Cinnamon Roll by Cook Local at Will Bake for Food 2010.

We love a good bake sale, don’t you?

Well, they do not get any better than Will Bake for Food.

Imagine a room full of baking bloggers who have donated their time, culinary talents, and tasty goodies in exchange for donations of food or cash to a local charity.

Donations of food or cash are exchanged at the door for tickets, which are then used to “buy” goods at all the various tables. Or, if you’re the gambling sort, raffle tickets can be purchased as well.

This year’s donation recipient is The Emergency Feeding Program of Seattle and King County. You can find a list of the items the Emergency Feeding Program needs most here (PDF).

This year’s bake sale of champions takes place on Saturday, November 12, at University Heights (5031 University Way NE), from 11AM-2PM.

Our haul from last year, long since consumed with gusto.

Last year’s event collected 1,903 pounds of food and $946 for Northwest Harvest. The 1,631 items sold by 54 bakers and 138 beverages (55 coffee, 83 cider) poured by 2 volunteers sold out in 90 minutes.

To see a sampling of this year’s bakers — which includes Molly Wizenberg of Orangette and Delancy, Cook Local of the Roosevelt neighborhood, and the secretary of the Ravenna-Bryant Community Association — visit the Bakers page of the Will Bake for Food website.

For more on the organizers of Will Bake for Food, check out our post about last year’s event (“Will Bake For Food: The Ravenna connection to next week’s event for Northwest Harvest”).

Grew those ginormous zukes at Picardo, too.

We’ll be Trick or Treating on our street tonight, as is our custom.

How do you spend your Halloween evenings in the neighborhood? Tell us in the comments — they WORK now!

Ravenna Blog Social Media Round-Up for October 23-29

Good news! The tool that we use to create these weekly updates has gone though an upgrade, making it much easier to grab stories from not only twitter, but facebook, RSS feeds, and much much more!

Henceforth, we’ll be calling this weekly post the “Social Media Round-Up” to reflect this enhanced collectibility of good local Internet stuff.

ENJOY.

Slideshow: Fall colors at Picardo P-Patch

As is our custom, we took a stroll through Picardo P-Patch at the beginning of the month to capture some autumnal farm foliage pictures. Here they are, for your Saturday Brunch pleasure*:

Light Rail, Community Center, Superintendent meetings (and more!)

Ah, autumn: The crisp air, the bright colored foliage, the opportunity to keep warm by huddling together with your neighbors at community meetings (many of which include snacks).

Here is a list of community meetings being held in the first half of November. As always, we recommend attending them all. However, if you can only choose one, we’d steer you toward the Advisory Council/Community Meeting at the Ravenna-Eckstein Community Center. Your input into the future of center operations — prior to the big budget decisions happening in City Hall in November — is vital.

  • Tuesday, November 1: Ravenna-Bryant Community Association Board Meeting, Ravenna-Eckstein Community Center (6535 Ravenna Ave NE), 7-9 PM. All neighbors are welcome to attend. Agenda to come.
  • Tuesday, November 1: Mayor’s Town Hall, Nathan Hale High School (10750 30th Ave NE), 5:30-8 PM. Mayor Mike McGinn, City Departments & Community Groups will answer your questions and hear what’s on your mind.

  • Thursday, November 3: North Link Light Rail Roosevelt Station Open House, Roosevelt High School Commons (1410 NE 66th Street), 6-8:30 PM (presentation starts at 6:30 PM). The open house will focus on the nuts and bolts of construction plans (NOT station design plans) at Roosevelt Station.
  • Wednesday, November 9: Advisory Council/Community Meeting, Ravenna-Eckstein Community Center (6535 Ravenna Ave NE), 6:30-8:30 PM. Input sought from community members about future use and operating hours of the RECC in 2012. Child care and light refreshments available.
  • Monday, November 14: Community Meeting on the Permanent Superintendent of Seattle Public Schools, Roosevelt High School (1410 NE 66th Street), 7-8:30 PM. National search for a new Superintendent, or hire Interim Superintendent Dr. Susan Enfield? Input sought from members of the public. (Survey available in mid-November as well.) Childcare and light snacks will be available starting at 6:30 PM. Hosted by the Seattle Council PTSA.
  • Wednesday, November 16: North Link Light Rail Brooklyn Station Open House, Neptune Theatre (1303 NE 45th St), 6-8:30 PM (presentation starts at 6:30 PM). The November open house will focus on the nuts and bolts of construction plans at Brooklyn Station.
