Art abounds in Ravenna — Check out Thrive

In the past we’ve mentioned events and workshops at Roaring Mouse Creative Arts Studio (7526 20th Ave NE), such as this weekend’s Annual Holiday Open House. *hint, hint*

And now, in the spirit of supporting all things Ravenna, we plug the other art school in the area, Thrive Art School (6329 NE 65th St).

Thrive has a couple workshops coming up that you and your offspring might be interested in taking together:

Drawing Together – A special parent and child workshop; ages 5-9 with parents

Sunday, December 11, from 1-2 PM and 2:30-3:30 PM

Local Artist Workshop – Create your own artwork inspired by Clare Johnson’s whimsical ink drawings; ages 8 and up with parents

Sunday, December 11, from 2-4 PM

Thrive Art School is located above Cafe Da Pino on the corner of Ravenna Avenue and NE 65th Street. They also have a location on E Madison Street, across the street from Cafe Flora.

Freaky Fall Festival this Friday at the RECC

How much fall family fun can be had for just three dollars a person?

Find out Friday, October 21, as the Ravenna-Eckstein Community Center (6535 Ravenna Ave NE) holds its Fourth Annual Freaky Fall Festival.

Halloween's still a couple weeks off, but that doesn't mean you can't try out your costume early.

From the event description:

It’s that spooky time of year again! Join us for this annual evening of treats and a few tricks. Come in costume and enjoy carnival style games, crafts, a jumpy toy, and more! Meet your neighbors, let your kids loose in the gym and have fun!

The event runs from 6-8PM. After that, you’ll have to find somewhere else to haunt.

Those spiders look serious.

Roaring Mouse Arts Studio’s website relaunches

Karen Knutson of Roaring Mouse Creative Arts Studio (7526 20th Avenue NE) let me know that the studio has a newly upgraded website which just launched:

So if you haven’t yet checked out the offerings at this Ravenna neighborhood institution, now is a great time.

You can also find Roaring Mouse on Facebook and Twitter.

Get your Halloween on at the Ravenna-Eckstein Community Center

The Ravenna-Eckstein Community Center (6535 Ravenna Ave NE) has two upcoming Halloween events for you and your little boys and ghouls to enjoy:

Information from the Seattle Parks and Recreation’s Fall 2010 Northeast Seattle print brochure:

TONIGHT, Friday, October 22, 6-8pm – Freaky Fall Festival (10 and under; $3)

It’s that spooky time of year again! Join us for this annual evening of treats and a few tricks. Come in costume and enjoy carnival style games, crafts, a jumpy toy, and more! Meet your neighbors, let your kids loose in the gym and have fun!

UPDATE (12:53pm): I’ve got some pictures of a few of the decorations and games you can play at tonight’s Freaky Fall Festival:

GAH!!

THREE PINS DOWN! AH AH AHHH.

EEEEK!

TOSS THE RAT IN THE TOILET GAME. Fantastic!

Friday, October 29, 6-8pm – Pumpkin Party Pizzazz! (all ages, $3)

Decorate a mini pumpkin and make Halloween crafts. We’ll watch “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” on the big screen and snack on yummy treats. To reserve your pumpkin, please register by 10/22.

I think the latter event is worth attending for “Great Pumpkin” on the big screen ALONE. But if you want to paint a pumpkin, too, the RECC asks that you register by TODAY.

Wacky Western Wednesday TOMORROW at the RECC

Fantastic (and Cheap) Family Fun at the Ravenna-Eckstein Community Center (6535 Ravenna Ave NE) continues with Wacky Western Wednesday!

From the Summer 2010 Seattle Parks and Recreation catalog (pdf):

Wacky Western Wednesday
Ages: 12 & under
Attention cowboys and cowgirls! Throw on your best western attire and cowboy duds and head on over to the community center! Eat some good ol’ fashioned cowboy chow, and come ready to party like cowboy, minus the campfire! Special guests include a mobile petting zoo (complete with a pot belly pig, goat, donkey, chicken, and bunnies) and pony rides on miniature and regular horses!
8/11 Wed Noon–2 p.m.
Activity Fee: $3

Did you see that?! Pot belly pig! Bunnies! And horses! And CHOW…all for three bucks.

We say: YEE HAW.
